How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has switched over to fall doesn’t mean you’re through with your AC for the season. Keeping up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a couple other pointers, can help you maintain your air conditioner while keeping your home comfy too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can build up around your outside unit, particularly during the fall. When it comes time to rake up the leaves in your yard, be sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can hinder air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down faster. We want your air conditioner to last as long as possible.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Set your thermostat at the highest temperature you can while still staying comfy. Whenever possible, use supplemental cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to reach that temperature. You may think shutting off your unit completely will save on energy and help your system, but that makes more work for it to make up when you flip it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another contributing factor that could lead to untimely system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with routine, annual AC maintenance is so critical. Our professionals will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and make sure the electric is working properly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more.
